Slain man's family hopes for justice

Re: Slain teen's family pleads for justice, Sept. 29.

My heart goes out to the family of Tareq Aman, who was stabbed to death in a confrontation in Medhurst Park one year ago. A year later, Tareq's father Farooq Aman made a public appeal for the community not to fail his son and his family.

My family and I know the pain they are going through and will be going through in the years ahead. We also lost a wonderful son, Andy Moffitt, to an act of violence.

Going on without our son and brother is a continuous heartbreak. We are always wondering what he would be doing today.

I think of what a great father he would have been. I picture him holding a little one in his arms and presenting us with a beautiful grandchild. He wanted to be a father someday and talked about buying a cottage where his children and grandchildren could all gather on special occasions. All his dreams are gone.

Now, three years and nine months later, we are at another stage and, like the Aman family, are asking the community not to fail us.

We did have a funeral but Andy stayed with us because we also promised him justice would come. He will be with us in that Ottawa courtroom on Nov. 12 when a man will face a second-degree murder charge.

We hope that this year justice will prevail and we will be able to say goodbye to Andy. People tell us this is closure. And we will be able to let Andy go. I guess only time will tell.

Paulette Moffitt,

Brockville
