    Andrew Moffitt scholarships awarded

Five engineering students at the University of Ottawa will benefit this year from a scholarship fund set up in memory of a Brockville man who died trying to break up a fight at an Ottawa bar.

Engineering students Jill Hass, Azar Mouzari, Brian Rocoskie, Marc Philippe St-Amour and Andrew Stuart will all receive $1,000 from the Andrew Moffitt Memorial Scholarship Fund, said Paulette Moffitt of Brockville, mother of Andrew Moffitt, killed in December 1998. This is the second year scholarships have been awarded.

"We really feel good about this because with this scholarship Andy is touching them and his spirit is always going to be in the University of Ottawa where he spent his last days writing exams," said Moffitt.

Moffitt, 23, was a computer engineering student at the university four winters ago when he was stabbed in the heart.

His parents used $5,000 in insurance money in wake of the tragedy to start the scholarship fund. News of the tragedy brought widespread support from both Canada and the United States, raising $158,850.

Henry Danninger, 30, also of Brockville, is charged with second-degree murder. He will appear in Ottawa court November 12.
